(Yet another set of) Predictions for 2010 (and thereafter)

It’s really fun to distill your stuff from all the buzz humming around you. So have a look at my take for the prodigious year 2010.

1. Analysts are expecting a rebound of Nokia, same here. At the same time we have hardly seen more competitive times in the handset market. I am ready for some cool stuff from Apple: not only the Tablet but also the next generation of iPhone(s). And Google Android with HTC and others are doing a great job in spreading touch screen devices to the less elite public

2. Even though the year 2010 will be another year of Apps I believe with browsers becoming better and location-aware we will see more "browser"-based Apps. We might have more browser-based mobile games for the broad mass of people.

3. Last year has seen a big push for AR (big time mainstream). 2010 will be another vibrant year for Augmented Reality browsers and apps with lots of the layers and mash-ups – that will bring some astonishing surprises to your most personal device.

4. More on "Social" Location - another pretty mainstream pick: There is a lot of talk about location and location is becoming more and more social: the link between people, places and what those people think about the places plus time: now, before and after calls for a great mash up. Waiting to see some new stuff emerging here in 2010.

5. Virtual Goods are becoming big: mostly in games, but also social environments like communities. These are usually event-based - a clear move away from subscriptions.

6. Clearly we are no some kind of trajectory towards a "Web of Things" (even though I sometimes miss the human element in the buzz around the web of things: how will that new beast best serve us?). One of the challenges could be some neat solution for an eHome in first step geared towards entertainment with mobile the ultimate remote control of music and film. It needs to link Internet services, a PC and a hard drive (home server) with music and film repository with different output devices like your sound system and TV... I am ready for it and waiting for Apple to show the way here: maybe not in 2010 but surely over the course of the next 3 years.

7. Before we see the more of the realities of the "Web of Things" to surface, we might be astonished to see the "Web of Interconnected Apps" emerge: with your Twitter account connect to your Facebook accounts (with possibly a personal account again linked to the admin of one or more fan pages) yet again linked to LinkedIn to FriendFeed to... Sometimes and unintentionally yes haphazardly heavy users with a bag full of accounts manage to produce "confused" status messages. You better beware!

8. As a firm believer in the ideas and power of crowd sourcing I believe that movement towards more open crowd sources development will gain momentum. It does not stop with development; it comprises idea sourcing, customer service, service adaptation. Plus: I am still looking for a tool to support crowd-sourced community-based marketing. Anybody seen anything here?

9. I believe it is time for a new ad distribution network. A community ad network will be based on the recommendation of other users and friends - with those users and friends earning while sharing and promoting information on products and services. In a sense it is an affiliate 2.0 not targeted at web masters but everybody who would like to endorse a product - and earn some bonus points. I admit not particularly mobile but this could have a strong mobile angle with location, bar code scanning and picture posting. Wouldn't that make a great Facebook App to start with in 2010?

10. ... here is room for one more - I am still working on that one... I am ready for your ideas
