It was quite a birthday party at Grey's ultra-chique HQ in Dusseldorf last Monday. And even the ever present flu could not seriously harm the event. Although two of our announced panelists could not make it to the event's podium due to the pandemic sickness, we found two great substitutes with the help of Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP). They gave us all the chance to look at the development of the Mobile Internet not only from our own somewhat "eurocentric" perspective, but from a truly global view on the subject. Special thanks to all of you, guys!
After my own introductory notes, that can be read and downloaded from my website
www.urchs.de, it was OMTP's Chief Marketing officer Tom Haysom to question not only the term "Mobile Internet" all together and single out the web's "free culture" as the most important achievement of the mobile world in the 10 years past - "free" not as in "free lunch" but as in "free speech".
Then it was Miguel Paraz's, of the Philippines premier carrier Smart Communications, turn to draw our attention to the fact that mobile in his home islands had never been one option but the general means of accessing the Internet - due to both the penetration of mobile handsets among a population who can simply not afford a PC and the prohibitive costs of laying out a "landline" network between some six thousand islands.
Morocco born Mohammed Dadas of Orange France and Mobile Monday's own Oliver Lauer, Head of Software Architecture at HSBC Trinkaus in his daytime job, discussed from sure enough well differing perspectives vividly Mobile Banking, just called the most important trend in mobile communication in 2010 by the Gartner Group. And Monty Metzger, CEO of mocom 2020, finally turned our heads and hearts to the more general trends of further mobile development in the next 10 years to come.
No sooner than this remarkable panel was over were drinks and fingerfood presented by GreyLive's distinguished maitress d'affairs Susanne Conrad to charmingly round up the evening with some lasting "networking effects". In case you weren't there: You sure missed another great Mobile Monday in Dusseldorf.
