High Expectations and Bitter Realities
There were high expectations for the year 2008 in Germany, but looking back one sees mainly the bitter realities of an industry not yet established. If one thing can be depended on in the German mobile industry it is most likely the divergence between expectations and disappointments. No one talks about the soaring growth rates that were widely speculated about in combination with UMTS licensing and other flashy developments. Mobile initiatives, such as Mobile TV and Mobile Payment Solutions, receive merely an embarrassed smile when mentioned in a round of mobile experts nowadays. However, it can’t be denied that there is momentum in this industry, driven mainly by its technical and innovational nature. So there is hope for 2009 – this year among other achievements there was the new 3G iPhone, the Google Android and new developments of location based GPS services.

The last Mobile Monday of this year in Berlin, will look back on 2008 and will look to 2009, with a critical but also an encouraging angle. So there will be a lot to discuss – from the iPhone application to the iMode Story, from the MTV Media Plan to the learning of the mobile community and the newest LBS concepts from Finland and Berlin. These topics and more will be discussed in an open panel discussion with the following experts from the mobile industry:

Thorsten Lubinski - Alazar
Björn Behrendt - Hiogi
Christof Fromm - E-Plus
Markus Otte - MTV
Håkon Wium Lie - Opera (CTO)
Christophe Maire – Nokia

As always the aim of the event is not for the speakers to present themselves and their companies, but to provide an event which will give value to all the mobile experts in the audience with clear relevant facts, success stories and an analytical industrial outlook – at the same time not forgetting the other side, the troubles with developments, marketing and acceptance of the mobile services and content.
